This was a “just us” meeting with no speaker, except ME.

When Bob and I first joined a carer support group, (Mood Disorders Carer support), the best thing for us, apart from being with people who “got it”, was learning what were the common behaviours of our daughter that were not simply bad behaviour but were an effect of the illness.

So, I would like to talk about our journey with our daughter, -the first signs of thinking something was wrong, her lack of friends even at kindy, and when she first self-harmed etc.

Learning about BPD and validation helped us a lot. I now understand why she behaves as she does, and yet there are still some things that embarrass me and that I find hard to talk about. But, I want to share them with you because I think, once again, they are symptoms of the illness, and not just being lazy or “bad”.

I would love you to come to the meeting and share some of your journey and the things that worry or embarrass you. They may be similar to my journey with Melinda or they may be completely different. If you don’t feel comfortable to do that, that’s fine. There will be no pressure to share. Tony will help us collate our thoughts. It should make for an interesting meeting
