Dr George Evans kindly spoke to Sanctuary about self harm – a behaviour that many of us have encountered, which can be confronting and confusing.
Here are our notes, taken during his talk:

Sheri Van Dijk, a leading DBT therapist, discusses self-harming behaviours. Importantly, she covers ways that carers can help – what to do and also how to do it, recognising that self-harm is extremely difficult for any carer to deal with. Although this talk focuses on teenagers, much of its content is general in nature and applies to adults as well.
